Hungry for History: Mysteries and Revelations of a Nineteenth Century Map of Moundsville

  • Cockayne Farmstead 1111 Wheeling Avenue Glen Dale, WV, 26038 United States (map)

Curator Hank Lutton of Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex will discuss the Price-Burley Map. Drawn in 1892, the map represents the nascent village of Elizabethtown and the surrounding landscape as they appeared eighty years earlier in 1812. Lutton will explore the history of the map, what it reveals about the earliest days of Elizabethtown, and discuss several omissions from the map.

Come and enjoy our free lunch-and-learn series, Hungry for History, hosted by the Marshall County Historical Society at the Cockayne Farmstead. All presentations are outdoors on Thursdays at noon. In case of inclement weather, the talk will be moved into the farmhouse. Bring a lunch if you choose, snacks provided!

The series is sponsored this year by the Rae Baker Family.
