We’ve all heard stories of Betty Zane and her ‘run for the powder’ and Lydia Shepherd and her efforts to bring the National Road through Wheeling. But there have been many other women who have a place in our local history. Among them are a Confederate spy during the Civil War and her counterpart who formed the Union Ladies of LaBelle, a long-lost artist and her counterpart who was married to the lawyer accused of embezzling from the artist’s inheritance, and a silent film actress and her counterpart who founded the Wheeling Symphony. These women and others will be highlighted in a presentation by Judi Hendrickson and Jeanne Finstein.
